Welcome to the Tea Pavilion! As this site takes shape, I hope it will become a close expression of my views on the world of tea. As a pavilion, it is a space where people can come together to share ideas, moments, experience, and knowledge of their own lives. And, like a pavilion, its bounds are marked merely by the presence of the pillars that hold its roof. Beyond that, one is free to view the world around them and draw upon it for inspiration.
What will become of this blog, only time will tell, but whether it thrives or not, no matter. Like tea, moments come and go. Objectives and goals are the clouds in the sky, to be admired, enjoyed for a while, and then let to fade across the horizon. Should something beautiful appear here, it will be in the simple reflection of tea.
Just to give readers a background of my life with tea, I have been drinking tea my whole life. My mother is British and, so, tea was always around. As I grew and matured, so too did my tastes. Long gone are the bags of a by-gone era, replaced by the finer flavors of hand-crafted leaves from China and Japan. Out of respect for these amazing plants and the cultures that have grow with them, I have become a student of both the Chinese Gong Fu Cha and Japanese Chanoyu. As such, I will always be a student of these dual arts and paths towards self cultivation.
It is my greatest hope that in both life and this blog that the focus always return to these tiny giants, the leaves that give us so much pleasure. Through intense examinations of the art of Gong Fu Cha and, hopefully, Chanoyu, we can possibly discover more about tea, how it reacts to water, time, heat, and each individual's interpretation. As a forum for this discussion, I hope that those who walk into the path of tea discover a closer connection to its many facets.
Warm Welcomes,
Scott Norton
